Transforming Research and Education of Science and Mathematics in the Digital Age

SMIC 2020

Jakarta, Indonesia, 8-9 August 2020

The 2nd Science and Mathematics International Conference (SMIC) was held on 8-9 August 2020 and was organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). The theme of this conference is Transforming Research and Education of Science and Mathematics in the Digital Age. SMIC 2020 aims to bring together leading academics, multi-disciplinary groups of scientists and practitioners from around the world to present and exchange ideas related to mathematics, science, its applications, future trends, and needs.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SMIC 2020 was conducted virtually. Following the Covid-19 protocol, a small number of SMIC 2020 committee members orchestrated the conference from Hotel Santika Kelapa Gading, Jakarta.

SMIC 2020’s invited experts form Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, and Taiwan. They presented their research from home to the participants from 8 different countries: Indonesia, Australia, Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, and The Philippines attended the conference.  

Two hundred papers have been submitted for SMIC 2020 proceeding which will be published in an Scopus-indexed AIP Conference Proceeding.

The conference activities on the first day began by the video streaming of the opening ceremony by Dr. Hanhan Dianhar as MC and conference report from Mutia Delina, Ph.D. as head of the SMIC 2020 committee. The next event is a workshop by presenting 2 facilitators:

  1. Prof. Chai Ching Sing (The Chinese University of Hong Kong)
  2. Obert Hoseanto, M.Pd (Microsoft Indonesia, Indonesia)

The conference plenary sessions presenting the outstanding keynote speakers:

  1. Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko (Indonesian Institute of Science-LIPI, Indonesia)
  2. Prof. Chen-Chung Liu (National Central University, Taiwan)
  3. Dr. Rupa Vuthaluru (Curtin University, Australia)
  4. Prof. Hesham El Enshasy (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia)

The conference also proudly present three invited speakers:

  1. Dr. Avinash Sharma (National Center for Cell Science, India)
  2. Prof. Raymond L. Chamber (Wollongong University, Australia)
  3. A. Prof. Wanty Widjaja (Deakin University, Australia)

Conferences can be held because of the support and cooperation of the various parties. The appreciation dedicated to Rector, Vice-Rectors, deputy of mathematics and science faculty, the Dean and all Vice Deans, also head of mathematics and science department in Universitas Negeri Jakarta for the support. The outstanding work from committee members for their hard work for commitment and dedication in organizing this conference. Profuse thanks to all the presenters, participants, student volunteers all other people who have directly or indirectly contributed to make SMIC 2020 a success. Various parties can not mention one by one which has supported the conference. Hopefully, this activity brings benefits not only for participants but also for all the representing countries, as well as scientific and technology education development
