Oleh sebab itu, Rektor UNJ mulai tahun 2020 ini menghimbau kepada seluruh mahasiswa UNJ untuk berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan PKM. Selain itu, Rektor UNJ pun mewajibkan kepada setiap mahasiswa yang telah mengikuti seminar proposal skripsi agar mengirimkan proposalnya untuk mengikuti proses unggah PKM yang selanjutnya akan direview di tingkat universitas. Namun demikian, hanya terdapat 3 proposal saja yang berhasil mengikuti Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (PIMNAS). Oleh sebab itu. beberapa fakultas, terutama FMIPA, berinisiatif untuk melakukan diskusi dan pelatihan untuk menyambut PIMNAS tahun 2021. Kegiatan ini akan di koordinasikan oleh BEM fakultas atau pun BEM prodi. Khusus untuk prodi fisika, satu kelompok mahasiwa dibawah bimbingan Dr. Umiatin berhasil menembus PIMNAS dan menyabet juara favorit PKMKC-1 di tahun 2020 ini. Acara ini diikuti oleh seluruh mahasiswa terutama mahasiswa angkatan 2020. Selain itu, beliau juga membagi pengalaman dalam membina mahasiswa yang mengikuti PKM, dimulai dari persiapan, pencarian unsur kebaruan, sampai penyajian materi. Hal yang mungkin paling sulit dilakukan adalah menemukan unsur kebaruan. Oleh sebab itu, beliau menekankan untuk banyak membaca referensi sehingga diharapkan ide untuk menemukan unsur kebaruan muncul.
