DESCRIPTION

Plant Tissue Culture and In Vitro Culture Collection laboratory is located in GHA Building, 9th Floor FMIPA – UNJ. This laboratory is used to support research activities for students and lecturers. This laboratory is divided into three chambers: preparation chamber, isolation chamber and planting, and culture chamber. This research lab has been used for basic research and applied research in tissue culture and horticultural plants through indoor hydroponic techniques. Research collaboration has been done with research institutes such as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development (BBiogen), Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT – BRIN), Centre For Diagnostic Standard of Agriculture Quarantine (BBUSKP), Indonesian Tropical Fruit Research Institute (Balitbu Solok), the Research Institute for Spices and Medicinal Plants (Balittro).

Research topics conducted by students and lecturers in the Biology Study Program include diversity and plant germplasm conservation.

  1. Basic research on in vitro culture has been carried out for plant propagation of several bananas and plantain cultivars (Barangan, Ampyang, Tanduk, Kepok, and Raja Bulu). 2022-2024, the propagation of other cultivars such as the bananas strain Mas and Raja Sereh will be developed. Other crop propagations that have been and will be developed are Potatoes, Stevia, Soybeans, Garlic, and Vanilla.
  2. Applied research includes medium-term storage techniques through minimal growth using retardant and in vitro storage techniques for wild banana seeds and commercial bananas through encapsulation-alginate techniques for conserving banana germplasm.
  3. This laboratory is also used to support research on increasing plant diversity by mutation induction to obtain horticultural crops (bananas, tomatoes, eggplants, chilies) that are resistant to diseases, as well as acclimatization of horticultural crops by indoor hydroponic techniques.

Laboratorium Equipment in Tissue Culture Laboratory is 2 (two) Laminar Air Flow Cabinet (Robust), an oven and electric autoclave, a Hot Plate and magnetic stirrer, a Spectrophotometer, a digital scale with an accuracy of 0.001 g, a refrigerator, and glassware to support activities. This laboratory also has 4 (four) Culture Shelves, sufficient to accommodate student research activities.
