Training for MGMP Mathematics Teachers in Preparing Students for Mathematics Olympiads

On Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), successfully held a Community Service Program entitled “Training for MGMP Mathematics Teachers in Preparing Students for Mathematics Olympiads.” This program reflects the department’s commitment to improving mathematics education through capacity-building initiatives for school teachers.

The participants of this program were 27 mathematics teachers who are members of the MGMP (Subject Teachers’ Forum) for Madrasah Mathematics, coming from various schools in the DKI Jakarta region and surrounding areas.

The objectives of this training were as follows:

  1. To enhance teachers’ pedagogical and professional competence in preparing students for mathematics competitions.

  2. To introduce effective strategies and techniques in solving Olympiad-level problems.

  3. To foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between mathematics educators and academics.

The training was conducted offline (face-to-face) in one of the classrooms at FMIPA UNJ, facilitated by lecturers from the Department of Mathematics. The training materials included:

  • Strategic approaches to problem-solving in mathematics Olympiads

  • Pattern recognition and problem types in national-level Olympiads

  • Simulation and discussion of real OSN (National Science Olympiad) questions

The sessions were highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and problem-solving activities. Each participant received a training module and a certificate of participation as recognition for their involvement.

The event concluded with a reflection session, where participants expressed their appreciation and the usefulness of the training. Many also conveyed the hope that similar programs would be held regularly in the future.

Through this activity, the Department of Mathematics at UNJ reaffirms its dedication to supporting mathematics teachers and improving student achievements, particularly in the field of mathematics Olympiads.
