Services for Fungi and Yeasts

  • Identification using partial rDNA sequencing: Ribosomal DNA containing small (18S or SSU) and large (26S/28S or LSU) subunits and the internal transcribed spacer region (rDNA ITS), has been long used as alternative to mitochondrial genes for identification of Fungi (Seifert 2009; Begerow et al. 2010).  UNJCC offers identification bacteria and fungi cultures using sequencing ITS region, D1/D2 rDNA, 16S rDNA, Beta tubulin, Calmodulin and specific primer for identification enzyme and protein. Identification includes, purification, DNA extraction, PCR sequencing, and analysis report with Phylogenetic tree using chromaspro, and PAUP.
  • Identification of fungi using morphological characters: identification of fungal cultures using morphological description.
  • Identification of yeasts using morphological characters: UNJCC offers identification profiles of maximum growth temperature with current guidelines (Kurtzman et al, 2011).
  • Enzyme assay: Selective Isolation of microbes from tropical habitat (soil sample) which has high hyrolases enzyme activities (pectinase, amylase, cellulose, and keratinase as two case study of enzymes from different classes). Purification of microbial cultures using selective medium. Secondary isolation of targeted enzyme biofactories using agar plate method.
