On 12-13 October 2023, an International Accreditation Visitation activity was carried out with the Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN) of the Mathematics and Physics group, FMIPA, Jakarta State University (UNJ), offline in the Building Meeting Room Syafei floor eight and online via Zoom.

This activity was attended by expert panelists, including Dr. Andrea Kern from ASIIN Germany, Prof. Hans-Georg Weigand from the University of Würzburg, Germany, Prof. Andreas Müller from the University of Geneva Switzerland, Alexandra Dreiseidler from Emil-Fischer High School in Euskirchen Germany, Dr.Rer. Nat. Roniyus Marjunus from Lampung State University (UNILA), Prof. Hilda Assiyatun Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Andre Saputra Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). This activity was also attended by the UNJ Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, and Heads of UNJ Institutions.

In his introduction, Prof. Komarudin, as Chancellor of UNJ, said that UNJ’s vision is “To become a reputable university in the Asian region.” the motto is “Educating and Dignifying the Nation”. To realize the strategy to achieve UNJ’s vision, we have created a long-term strategic development plan from 2020 to 2045. UNJ has carried out national and international collaboration, including research and publication activities, international conferences held every year, one of which is the Science and Mathematics Conference held by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (FMIPA) for the last three years as well as the International Physics Seminar held by the Department of Physics and Physics Education this year.

Regarding thesis assessment, UNJ invites external examiners for Bachelor’s/Master’s programs and supervisors for thesis writing. To develop student teaching competence, UNJ organizes Teaching Practice programs in local schools and teaching practicums abroad, such as in Singapore, Makkah and Riyadh (Middle East), Canberra (Australia), Songkhla (Thailand), Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia ), Davao City (Philippines).

UNJ has eight faculties and one postgraduate program comprising 112 study programs. To serve more than Twenty-Six Thousand local Students, UNJ employs more than eight hundred academic staff. The number of international students has increased in the last two years. UNJ has four campuses: Campus A in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, the Office of the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Postgraduate Programs and six faculties. Campus B, the Faculty of Sports Sciences, the sports stadium, and other sports facilities are located there. Campuses C and D, the Faculty of Psychology and the Department of Elementary School Teacher Education are close to the centre of Jakarta.

Facilities supporting academic activities include the UNJ Library, open theatre, Computer Technology Center, Science Laboratory, School Laboratory, University Hotel, Sports Facilities, Stadium, Gym, Health Clinic, Child Care Unit, and Canteen. On Campus A, four new tower buildings are currently under construction and will be completed next year. UNJ is now starting to plan and design its 5th campus on our eighty-hectare land in the eastern area of ​​Jakarta.

In the last three years, UNJ has achieved:
1) Rank 1 in the implementation of Intellectual Copyright in 2019
2) Rank 1 in the implementation of Intellectual Copyright in 2020
3) TOP 10 on the implementation of Intellectual Copyright in 2022
4) Best Achievement for Key Performance Indicators in the application of research and community service in 2022.
5) The top three with the highest publications at UNJ are Bachelor of Physics Education, Master of Physics Education, and Bachelor of Physics.
6) Based on these achievements, in 2020, UNJ received Excellent or Excellent certification by the National Accreditation Body. Even more powerfully, this encourages UNJ to pursue this vision internationally.

Regarding international accreditation bodies, 18 Study Programs have been accredited by AQAS in 2021, and 11 Study Programs have been accredited by ASIIN in 2022.

UNJ is very happy to have 6 ASIIN-accredited academic programs at FMIPA. Consist of:

  1. Physics Undergraduate Program
  2. Physics Education Undergraduate Program
  3. Physics Education Master’s Program
  4. Bachelor of Mathematics Program
  5. Bachelor of Mathematics Education Program
  6. Master’s Program in Mathematics Education

Discussion between panellists and UNJ experts

Several things were discussed in the discussion between Panelists and UNJ experts, including those related to Excellent University; compared to other universities in Jakarta, UNJ has to compete fiercely. UNJ has the main advantage, namely, as a higher educational institution with a long experience history. UNJ is also trying to get human resources to study abroad, and the existing facilities at UNJ will continue to be improved, including at FMIPA, by strengthening the quality of its laboratories. UNJ has a lab school that can compete with state and private schools, with several sports, vocational and arts achievements.

According to Prof. Komarudin, the advantages of this international accreditation include recognition from the community that it will generate high public interest in UNJ, this will make UNJ known worldwide, and it is hoped that many international students will come to UNJ. Apart from that, Prof. Komarudin said that to become a World Class University, UNJ will increase research learning and, no less significantly, improve the quality of its lecturers.

At the end of the discussion, three things were highly appreciated by the Panelists for UNJ, including the Center of Excellence, Labschool and Business Incubator. These three things are considered positive in terms of commitment to contribute to society.

Prof. Komarudin thanked the expert panellists for the discussions and impressions given to UNJ.
