The Visiting Lecturer Series has come to a close, and what an exciting journey it has been! Achmad Gazali, M.Sc., Ph.D., led the final session, which had an intriguing topic on the Analysis of Female-Specific Wing Retraction in the Winter Moth, Nyssiodes lefuarius.
Dr. Achmad Gazali is a distinguished researcher at the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization HQ in Japan, and his expertise brought a fascinating perspective to the series. The lecture was attended by over 70 students and educators from the Biology Education Program, making it a highly engaging and informative event.
The topic he discussed—genetic differences in moths that determine the presence or absence of wings and help distinguish male and female moths—captivated everyone’s attention. It was a truly unique subject that sparked deep curiosity!
Beyond the scientific content, Dr. Gazali, an Indonesian researcher working in Japan, also shared his personal experiences of studying and working in Japan. He offered valuable insights into life as a researcher and what it’s like to work in Japan, inspiring many students to think about their academic and professional futures.
Even though the session was held online, the enthusiasm and participation from the audience were exceptional. We are hopeful that in the future, we can invite him to deliver an in-person lecture at the Biology Education Program at UNJ.
