Podcasts are a digital media that have recently become popular in education. Podcast media is a type of digital audio media. Learning media using audio is a simple medium that only uses hearing, but this media is considered capable of helping students think well, improve memory, and sharpen their hearing. Podcast itself is a digital audio medium that has been widely used, especially in the entertainment and education industries. Using podcasts as e-learning has several advantages, including reusability and replaying of teaching materials, availability, and independence from one technology because podcasts can be used via various play media such as MP3 players, MP4 players, cellphones/smartphones, etc. This media allows students to continue learning without relying on class attendance for learning as is done in conventional classes. Podcasting has the potential to be an effective tool in the kit for learning. Therefore, the Biology Education Study Program provides a forum for students as prospective biology teachers to gain basic knowledge and skills related to the world of podcasting so that they can be practiced and developed into sustainable learning media products.
This training is a collaboration between the Biology Education Study Program and the Cibubur Global Mandiri School, which is one of the initiators of podcast-based learning media by forming a podcast team known as “Primetalk.” Approximately 30 students from various classes attended this activity.
The direct delivery of the material was carried out by Mr. Yudi Wahyudi, S.Pd, one of the Global Mandiri School teachers, and continued with the practice of making scripts, selecting podcast shooting spots, and practice of making a short podcast. This practice is directly supervised and directed by the prime talk team so that students receive feedback on the results of their work during the training.
