The rise of behavioral deviations that occur in the public arena, disorientation of life values, and disharmony at the level of community life has become a sight that we often encounter. The ethics of how to speak both orally and on social media has experienced a shift that reflects no longer being an educated human being. The ethics of driving on public roads that no longer care about the interests of other people with the same rights and the culture of standing in line is increasingly expensive. The tendency to achieve something instantaneously and pragmatically even tends to justify various ways. In higher education institutions, plagiarism cases and arbitrary and authoritarian actions are rife, which seriously injure how the dignity of higher education should be fought for and upheld. In addition, at the elite level, various actions that are not worthy of being an example are exhibited, such as corrupt behavior, abuse of authority, personal ego, and sectoral ego, whose trend is increasing. This requires clear thinking, programs, and strategies that lead to character-building on campus or in higher education.

To minimize the widespread shift in life values, the Physics and Physics Education Study Program, FMIPA UNJ, since 2010, has opened an Olympism course with one credit load. The course contains the philosophy and values of the Olympics, understanding national culture, building a harmonious society, building a winning character spirit, and planting Olympiads to produce leaders with character. Initially, this lecture collaborated with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) for the initial stage of training for instructors/teachers, and finally, the implementation of the lecture took place independently. From the evaluation results, this course has a positive impact on students. So since 2014, the Olympiad course has become a compulsory subject for students

Most importantly, there are 3 (three) Olympic values, namely:

LIVING EXCELLENCE

It contains the values:

  1. Work hard to achieve the best performance.
  2. Fight to the end (never give up).
  3. Focus on achievement.
  4. Keep learning to get the proper process for the best achievement.
  5. Maintain a balance between physical fitness, motivation/desire, and mental strength.

LIVING RESPECT

Mutual respect for self and others in terms of:

  1. Dissent.
  2. Differences in beliefs.
  3. Differences in cultural diversity.
  4. Differences in Ethnicity/Race and Nation.
  5. Human rights.
  6. Achievement/success.

LIVING FRIENDSHIP

It contains the values:

  1. Friendship.
  2. Empathize and sympathize with others.
  3. Cooperation.
  4. Giving, serving to others
  5. Mutual support.

Implementing Olympiad lectures includes face-to-face meetings, socialization practices in high schools, and applying Olympic values in the form of a camp called the 2017 Olympism. The Department of Physics and Physics Education held this camp for the fourth time.
